FADO PRESENTS 5 HOLES MATTERS OF TASTE / KOBE

Gyrl Grip (Lisa Newman & Llewyn Máire)
Curator Paul Couillard

Performance July 15th, 2006, 8pm
Offthemapgallery

KOBE was a performance designed to protest the treatment of animals. In this case the treatment of cows. In some markets they are force feed beer and massaged relentlessly inorder to make their meat marketable under a gourmet label that fetches extremely high prices. Perhaps it sounds not that bad and one .....

Iris Häussler - The Legacy of Joseph Wagenbach
Curated by Rhonda Corvese

105 Robinson Street - Toronto Ontario  Canada

I had briefly noticed an invitation to a talk at the Goethe-Institut about an aging sculptor, Joseph Wagenbach, whose home was being open to the public. He had become ill and had had to go into a nursing home leaving behind a home full of work that he had never shown to the public. The public archives had got hold of it and were now trying to cate.....

    Joan Fontcuberto
Artcore, Toronto

On a cursory attempt to find out a bit about Joan on a google search I found very little and certainly no pictures. And when I asked to take a picture of one of his works at Artcore, Toronto, where he was showing up to a little while ago I was told no because I would cause his work to warp and vanish.  So I put in a picture of a faux flower arrangement done by a friend of Larry's mother. It seemed somehow appropriate.

Joan first c.....

"The Winter Garden Theatre, Toronto" by antonia on May 12, 2006, 6:54 am, in category General
    The Winter Garden Theatre, Toronto
The wall murals were done by I don’t know who but they are gorgeous

The murals were done when the theatres were built in 1913.  The Elgin Winter Garden Theatre is the only surviving double decker theatre still operating. I think there were only three others ever built. The Winter Garden theatre - the upper theatre - hosted vaudeville acts until it closed in 1928 and lay hidden, forgotten, but in its original state for nearly sixty years. .....

from the New York Times.

12 venues from the biennial. The event takes place down one street Auguststrafle 17, etc.

"This approach to curating a biennial is loosely inspired by the tendency in Berlin to turn apartments into galleries and use temporary spaces for impromptu exhibitions and events. In combination with the artworks, the venues also reflect the atmospheres and tensions recurring throu.....

Well this will be fun, but I will give it a shot anyway. I was told that Meike was a must go so I got myself on a street car and went to her talk. I was in a strange mood. Definitely not in an art mood. When I got to 401 Richmond I found alot of people out front, smoking, talking, laughing.  It was good to see the building adorned this way, lively and engaged. I went inside and did a whirl wind gallery hop telling myself that this was for.....

    RENE PRICE
'Slice of Suburbia'

While I was in Ottawa, I went to see Rene's show and what a show it was. From his invitation I had expected to see a single comprehensive work; a facsimile of a parking lot with row after row of miniature houses and cars set up and parked along the painted parking divisions. A great visual image and a work I wanted to see.  However this work is presented as a photograph, just one of many many pieces in the sh.....

I went to hear Napoleon's talk on his latest work. It is intended as a positive work and for the most part it is. You call a number on your touch tone phone ( if anyone has the number please put it up in the comment section, I did have it but for some reason, not any more ). By following some simple directions you can create a tree and have it planted; an electronic tree in a digital landscape. Now the accompanying co.....

After going through the Hic show which meant many stairs and using many hunting and finding skills, I decided to have a coffee and a chocolate chunk cookie. Isaac was with me so we had  long discussion on the show which I won't talk about here although it would have made for a far more interesting post since we gave our opinions on everything and everybody. We needed the coffee and cookies. During one of our conversation gaps we looked up and saw Andy Fabo and his class doing exactly t.....

Okay, I choose this particular work because it came very close to portraying my state during those agonizing and comical years that I spent studying, what ever that whole process was about.

Ziegler seems to be saying the same thing with this work, From his write up, he apparently asked students to individualize each ballon by blowing into one and then draw a faces on it. He fully understood that the ballo.....

The idea of  being blind and creating has a built in challenge connected with its  concept. According to Zack, Pilis claims that most other creative fields can function as blind operators, but not architects. I am not convinced that this is true. Pilis is a trained and practising architect.  I am not a trained or practicing architect. Yet I would think that although conceptualizing space and colour et.....

The three galleries, Olga Korper, Christopher Cutts, and Peak, are within walking distance of Offthemap and so I set out. Just to set the context I went to the bank to check on a nonexistant bank balance. This becomes relevant when I see that the paintings at Olga's are being sold from  11,000 - 42,000. Then I went to Value Village, its almost right next to .....

Here are some thoughts I had, after visiting the opening of Antonia's current show at offthemapgallery [March 2006]:

There was a question during the opening whether the show should be seen as one or two separate exhibitions or works.  I saw it as one piece, because I wasn't primed to see it in any other way...pretty much what Rupen said during the conversation a group of us had.  But now, having thought about it, that is the way if functions best for me [as one]. <.....

"WELCOME" by antonia on March 15, 2006, 12:19 pm, in category General
I will start this all off with Chris Buck, the guest speaker at last week's Kodak lecture series. I had no idea who he was. But guessing from the fight I had to put up for my seat, the full aisles, and the evident presence of a spill over room, I understood that he was probably pretty popular. I could also tell from the audience that he was probably not a visual artist. They were all too young and too affluent. There was more of an advertising feel in the room. This was confirmed when Chris’ ima.....
